When a prostate adenoma grows 30 times larger than normal or a bladder tumor occupies most of the organ, not every urologist has the experience to handle such challenges. Professor Dmitry Enikeev specializes in large tumors and complex urological conditions. Over the years, he has performed more than 3,500 surgeries, placing him among the most experienced urologists globally. His research publications appear in leading medical journals, and he serves on the editorial boards of four international urology journals .

Professor Enikeev has performed some of the largest prostate adenoma removals in Israel — over 600 CC — and laser resections of bladder tumors exceeding 8 cm. Thanks to advanced laser technologies, these procedures can be done with maximum organ preservation.

Many patients seek his second opinion. In complex cases, different doctors may suggest different approaches, each with its own indications, benefits, and limitations. Professor Enikeev carefully explains every option, drawing on the latest global research to help patients make informed decisions.

He sees patients in Tel Aviv, Haifa and Ashkelon. For those living outside the region or abroad, online consultations are available. Just send your medical records, test results, and imaging in advance. After reviewing them, the professor will schedule a video consultation to discuss your treatment plan.

«The best surgery is the one you didn’t need»

This guiding principle comes from years of surgical experience. Surgery should never be an automatic option; it must be carefully considered and truly necessary.

Take, for example, elevated PSA and positive prostate biopsy. That alone doesn’t warrant immediate surgery. Some prostate cancers grow so slowly they don’t affect quality of life for years. In such cases, active surveillance may be the best approach — regular PSA tests every 3–6 months, annual MRIs, and biopsies when indicated. Patients continue living their normal lives, knowing their condition is being closely monitored, and any changes will prompt timely action.

On the other hand, aggressive cancers leave little room for delay. A high Gleason score, rapid PSA growth, or tumor spread beyond the prostate demands immediate intervention. In these cases, time is critical.

When prostate, kidney, or bladder cancer is caught early, it is often possible to preserve the affected organ. Modern techniques allow for removal of only the diseased tissue, sparing healthy structures. But this depends on the size, location, and aggressiveness of the tumor.

Each case calls for a tailored treatment strategy. With NanoKnife, electrical pulses destroy cancer cells while preserving nerves and blood vessels — often preferred by men wishing to maintain sexual function. Cryoablation freezes tumors at ultra-low temperatures, making it ideal for elderly patients or those unfit for major surgery. Laser enucleation removes prostate adenomas of any size through natural pathways — with no incisions.

When cancer is diagnosed at an advanced stage, surgery alone may not be enough. Then, the care team includes oncologists, radiologists, and chemotherapy specialists. Modern immunotherapy helps the body’s own immune system recognize and attack cancer cells. These drugs can be used after surgery to prevent recurrence or in metastatic disease to control tumor growth.

Treatment plans are always individualized. The professor considers tumor type and stage, patient age, comorbidities, and test results. Everyone has different priorities: one patient may want to preserve sexual function, another to avoid general anesthesia, a third to minimize recovery time. All of these factors influence treatment choice.

Introduced laser en bloc resection in Israel for complete removal of bladder tumors

Performs surgery only when truly necessary; in some cases, careful monitoring is sufficient

Always takes into account the patient’s wishes and priorities when choosing treatment

Introduced in Israel a method for precise prostate cancer diagnosis — fusion biopsy under local anesthesia

How Scientific Expertise Translates into Better Patient Care

When leading medical companies were developing next-generation laser systems for urology, they invited Professor Enikeev as a clinical advisor. Engineers observed him operating, studied how lasers interacted with various tissues, and worked together to optimize controls, settings, and performance parameters.

Being involved in development gives the professor deep insight into the capabilities and limits of surgical techniques. He understands how to fine-tune laser systems for different tissues and procedures. He has performed over 3,500 operations using various laser platforms.

His methods are recognized internationally. At major urological congresses in Paris, Milan, Madrid, Vienna, Salzburg, Seoul, and the U.S., Professor Enikeev has performed live surgeries broadcast in real time — watched by thousands of doctors around the world. Only the most experienced surgeons are invited to demonstrate their skills in this format.

He is a prolific researcher, with over 280 publications, and is involved in international studies and clinical education through the European School of Urology. But beyond the numbers, it’s the practical value to patients that matters. Being part of cutting-edge research means access to new treatments that have shown effectiveness in clinical trials but are not yet widely available.

For example, new laser surgery techniques and organ-sparing protocols for prostate cancer are first tested by experts before adoption. Professor Enikeev’s patients often benefit from these innovations before they become standard practice.

An English-Speaking Specialist in the Israeli Medical System

Professor Enikeev arrived in Israel as an established expert — a professor at the University of Vienna with an international reputation. His research was already known to Israeli colleagues, helping him quickly integrate into the local medical community and bring new treatment techniques.

He was the first in Israel to adopt several advanced techniques. Laser en bloc resection allows for complete removal of bladder tumors, lowering recurrence risk. Transperinial Fusion biopsy using the Ginsburg protocol, performed under local anesthesia, provides more accurate prostate cancer diagnosis. It not only detects cancer but pinpoints its exact location, enabling minimally invasive focal therapy with NanoKnife or cryoablation.

He also introduced the latest generation of thulium fiber lasers in Israel — a system he had been using in Europe. Professor Enikeev is a member of the advisory board for Olympus, a leading U.S.-based medical equipment and laser manufacturer, where he advises on surgical innovation.

From his first months in Israel, he began training local urologists — performing demonstration surgeries, giving lectures, and consulting on complex cases. Many of his trainees now use these technologies in clinics across the country.

Today, Professor Enikeev sees patients in Tel Aviv, Haifa and Ashkelon. For English-speaking patients, this means discussing your diagnosis and treatment plan in your own language. Medical terminology can be complex — especially when facing a serious condition — and it’s crucial to understand every word and ask any question without hesitation.

Professor Enikeev provides consultations across the full spectrum of urological conditions — from inflammatory diseases to cancer, from kidney stones to urinary disorders and erectile dysfunction. His expert opinion is especially valuable in complex situations: when choosing a treatment for prostate cancer, diagnosing a kidney or bladder tumor, or planning a second surgery after an unsuccessful first procedure. If you’re looking for the best solution for yourself or a loved one, a consultation with Professor Enikeev can help you make the right decision.
